RS Works vs. Jobscan

Jobscan has been around since 2013. It was the first company to offer resume scanning and scoring to jobseekers. They later added a resume tool that is a set of templates the user types over. That helps one person check keywords. It is not how a counselor moves a caseload.

What Jobscan does

Jobscan is a jobseeker ATS scanner. A person pastes a job description, uploads a resume, and gets a match score plus keyword suggestions. The newer resume product is a type-over template: the user fills in a designed page rather than working with a counselor.

That model makes sense for an individual who wants a keyword check before they apply. It is a different job than running a caseload at a workforce nonprofit or career program.

The pages below show a Jobscan type-over template next to an RS Works resume for the same candidate. We did not run these documents through the scored benchmark, so there are no match scores on this page.

Where Jobscan is strong

  • Jobseekers already know the ATS scan and keyword-gap format.
  • A match score against a pasted job description is fast to produce.
  • Type-over templates give a clean page without hiring a designer.

Risks for workforce programs

  • The product is for individual jobseekers, not staff who manage a caseload.
  • A match score does not tell a counselor whether the story is accurate or hireable.
  • Type-over templates keep the original weak bullets. The page looks cleaner. The content stays the same.
  • There is no program reporting, staff role structure, or guided intake for workforce, campus, government, or outplacement teams.
  • Counselors still rewrite the document after the scan if they want something an employer will trust.

Why programs choose RS Works

RS Works sits with the counselor. Intake, drafting, and review stay in one place so a workforce program can move a caseload without sending people out to a consumer scanner.

The bottom line

Jobscan helps a jobseeker check keywords. Program teams need documents that hold up in hiring, plus the staff tools to produce them at volume.
