If They've Done It, Help Them Elevate It

Career-changers and people aiming up a level often hide the very experience that would get them considered. If it was not the official job title, they assume it does not count.

If a client has used a tool, platform, or process, even as a portion of the role, it belongs on the resume. Elevation is not exaggeration. It is naming the work they actually did.

When the goal is a pivot, the summary can connect where they have been to where they are headed:

  • Aspiring project coordinator with client-facing operations experience
  • Junior data analyst with reporting and spreadsheet automation experience
  • Career-changer with JavaScript coursework and volunteer website work

Then prove it in the bullets. A single line in a skills list is weaker than a bullet that shows they used the skill on behalf of a real team, caseload, or customer.

Clients in a low period at work often under-claim. Your job is to reality-check that instinct: if they have done it, it can be on the page, in language the next employer will recognize.
